Thursday 7th August - Skye to Fort William

We got up early – about 7:00am – in order to be already to leave after breakfast for Armadale to catch the ferry to Mallaig, before 9:00am. It was a beautiful morning – calm and blue. We made it at 8:45 and we were off.
It is amazing how different the scenery looks from a different direction; we got a real look at the Cuillins of Skye that we hadn't really had on the way.

The road was pretty good, windy but a good surface.
We got to Armadale at 10:15 just in time to catch the ferry before the one that we had booked on at 11:40, so we arrived at Mallaig at 10:45.

It was an attractive little place and we had a good morning tea in a very attractive café called the Tea Garden

Off we went to Fort William on the A82 – a good road all the way to the town.

The hostel was about 2 ½ miles down the Glen Nevis Road, right under Ben Nevis!

The accommodation was just two bunks – one up and one down, but at least we had a room on our own and it had its own power point. After our simple tea we went for a walk over the Nevis River on a little foot bridge. It is a beautiful place; full of trees, a gurgling stream and huge Bens surging straight up into the sky.

We met a Belgian family who had just come back from an all-day walk up and down Ben Nevis and had realised that they still had a huge walk back to where they had left their car so we gave the wife Meike a ride to where their car was at Torlundy – it was miles away!

On the way back we did some grocery shopping at Morrisons and went home for tea!
