Saturday 9th August - Glencoe, Loch Lomond and Glasgow

This was going to be our big day – finding our way from Glen Nevis, Fort William to the Youth Hostel in Glasgow.
We set off at about 9:45 along the A82 towards Glencoe. It was a beautiful day sunny and warm – about 18°C. We turned off and found the Visitor’s Centre among the trees.

What we liked about it was the fact that, although there was information about the famous event, it had also become a conservation park, looking after the trees, plants and animals.

One of the attendants Paul Morgan went out of his way to describe the geography and ancient history of the place – Neolithic times! While exploring the paths round the place we found a Robin and a little Robin Chick in the trees round about with a wasp of some kind!

Eventually we drove out of the far end of Glencoe,

passed one of the many milestones,
MIlestone - Kinloch 23 miles
to Crianlarich and joined the A82 where we had turned off a week or so before to go to Oban. We cruised along beside Loch Lomond

and eventually found a parking place where we could stop by the Loch and get a close look.

After Crianlarich we found a spot to eat our lunch of oatcakes and cheese

and check the map so that we had some idea of what to look for when we got into Glasgow and had to find our way to the Youth Hostel in Kelvinside.

We did get a bit lost right at the end of the A82 when we were looking for the A804 or St Georges Street as we completely missed it. However we got there eventually and it was a beautiful old three storey building overlooking Kelvingrove Park. The interior is amazing with a beautiful old carved oak staircase – which we had to walk up to get to our room on the 3rd floor. It was worth it though because our room is great double bed with an ensuite – in a Youth Hostel!
