Saturday 2nd August - Travel to Oban

Well it was grey day with steady rain all the way.

The Erskine bridge over the River Clyde was amazing - it has just one set of suspension cables down the middle instead of the usual two either side like the Forth Road Bridge.

There was a lot of traffic all the way until we got to the A85 when it began to thin out a bit. On either side instead of the road markers on either side, that we have in NZ, up here the have "snow poles" for the winter so that you know where the road is!

We got here to the Clohass B&B at about 4:15 - all good.

I sent a message to James and Julia as soon as we got here because they had come up the day before and were staying at the Oyster Inn near Connel. They had booked a table at the EE Usk restaurant down at the harbour front at 7:30. We got together and wandered the town in the drizzly rain for a while - tried a whisky, looked at boats and the ferry

- and eventually got to the restaurant.
It was a seafood place and the meal was exceptional - best seafood meal I have ever had! Oyster starter
- good sized and fresh - followed by a seafood platter
- heaps of black shelled mussels, longestines, oysters, salad and a scallop! For desert I had a double matured Oban whisky
- paradise!

After the meal we went up to the "Folly" on the hill and had a look at the night lights

and then went home.
