Sunday 10th August - Glasgow Youth Hostel

The Youth Hostel is a beautiful old building
The main entrance

Our window is one of the round attic ones at the top

previously owned by John Reid who made his money through the railways.
A Belgian marble fireplace with his coat of arms above
Inside it there is this beautiful carved oak staircase that goes up three storeys - 76 steps! We counted them! The lift doesn't function anymore.
Looking down 76 steps!

The landing

Stair post - heads: one with eyes shut, one with eyes open

76 of these to get to the penthouse

The facilities are amazing. A full stainless steel gas hob kitchen that looks as though it has been built for a caterer.
The kitchen
The dining areas are all equipped with nice new looking tables and chairs.
The breakfast room!
